On Shantou Street in George Town, the “NAM KIE COFFEE SHOP” first opened its doors in 1929. The shop’s interior design hints at traditionalism. The original timber benches, marble dining tables, and glass money drawers are still in place. Hainanese fried Hainan noodles are currently uncommon in Penang, and the boss really stir-fries the traditional Hainanese noodles.

The well-known Hainanese stir-fry has the perfect amount of fire. After being fried, the white Hainan noodles are a little sloppy. Green veggies, prawns and pork liver are among the ingredients.
